Green tea was first discovered by an emperor according to Chinese legend. The history began when the emperor was having a walk in the forest while leaving a boiling a kettle of water on the campfire. All of a sudden, a strong gust of wind put the fire out and the leaves of the tree were blown towards the hot water of the emperor. The emperor was so upset when he came back and saw what happened. But because of being thirsty, he decided to drink the water and was amazed because of the surprisingly refreshing taste! As he ponder on what have happened, he brought some leaves with him as he went home and enjoyed it everyday. The people were influenced by the emperor and soon, tea became a very popular drink.
Tea has a long and interesting history in China as well as some Asian countries and they mostly consume either green or white tea. It has long existed since the 9th century in Japan and was consumed mainly to point out one’s status in life, as well as a social drink that offers a lot of health benefits.
Green tea and Western black tea came from one plant which is called Camellia sinensis or tea plant. The only difference between the two is the way they are being processed after being hand picked during the season. Black tea initially undergoes drying process followed by fermentation to make it last longer. Green tea on the other hand doesn’t undergo fermentation, leaving the leaves green. This means that green tea doesn’t last that long unlike black tea. But the advantage of green tea is its fresh taste which many people consider as a healthy for the body.
Many people are wondering about the taste of green tea, as how to describe it. If you are taking a sip of green tea for the first time, you may think of the taste as grassy or green, but it is hard to explain. For you to be able to determine the true taste, you need to try it for yourself.
