What is wine?

What comes into your mind when you hear the word wine? Wine is known to exist for more than 7000 years already, with which the standard ingredients are grape juice and yeast. Almost all wine is produce from grape juice even though there are some who use skin to make wines with the purpose of making color just like that of rose.

How is wine produced?

The main ingredient of wine is yeast which is responsible for transforming grape juice into wine through the process of fermentation. It is quite interesting to know that you can create wine with just an open container and grape juice since there are wild yeast spores being blown by the wind to the place and you just have to patiently wait for it to be fermented.

But then, there won’t be a guarantee that the result will be pleasing to taste.

There are around 1000 different strains of yeasts which are used to create wine and are purposely cultivated to achieve different textures and flavors.

Yeast is a life form that mainly consumes sugar in the grape juice during the fermentation process.

As fermentation occurs, yeast organisms multiply in number until all the sugars are consumed in the entire process. Sugars in this process are then transformed to carbon dioxide and alcohol.

Various factors affect the entire quality of wine which includes the type of yeast being used, the temperature during the entire fermentation process as well as the time the wine is being kept to age.

After the sugars are consumed, the yeast cells will then go down the bottom of the container where fermentation initially occurs. The wine is separated from yeast and is transferred to a different container to age.

So before taking drink from your wine glass, think about how your favorite wine is made, while savoring its fine flavor.
